Got questions? We have answers!

Here, we’ve compiled answers to some of the most common questions about living with us. Whether you’re curious about amenities, policies, or the local area, you’ll find all the information you need to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to reach out!

Applying

The offer is valid for 2 days from the date of sending, and the signing period cannot be extended. However, we understand students have changing life circumstances so just drop us an email at info@anttikorppistudenthouse.fi if you would like to receive a new offer. There is no need to send a new application unless we specifically request it. Please note that a new offer may come for a different apartment, or in the busiest seasons (August-December) we may not have apartments available anymore.

Yes, if you are on time and we have free rooms! We are happy to rent the same apartment to groups of students. Please write on the application form who you would like to share the apartment with.

You can apply for a room by filling out the application here. Please note that we only accept applications that come through the application form. Applications sent by email are not considered.

The application process looks like the following:

  1. Send an application.
  2. We’ll process the application and send you an offer.
  3. Read and sign the offer.
  4. Pay your security deposit to reserve your room.
  5. You will receive a “Confirmation of Security Deposit Receipt” message when we have received your deposit.
  6. All done! You’ll receive more information about your stay closer to the move-in date.

The minimum stay is one full month and you can stay with us as long as you like! The most popular months are August to December when it can be more difficult to get an apartment for 1-2 months. You can still send us an application, as cancellations may occur.

We check the signature and make sure everything is in order with the contract. You will then receive a deposit invoice by email and, if your stay starts in the middle of the month, a rent invoice for the first month of your stay.

After that, you can join our Facebook and Telegram group to start getting to know your new neighbours — and don’t forget to follow us on Instagram @anttikorppi to stay updated on events and useful tips!

Feel free to tell us a bit about yourself and your preferences – this helps us offer you the most suitable room. You can mention things like:

  • Would you like to share a room or be on the same floor with your friends? Please list their names.
  • Are you open to sharing a room with someone of a different gender (male / female / other)?
  • Your age
  • The exact dates of your stay
  • Are you looking for a quieter living environment – or are you perhaps more social and hoping to meet new people?

The more details you share, the better we can take your wishes into account!

Contract

The offer is valid for 2 days from the date of sending, and the signing period cannot be extended. However, we understand students have changing life circumstances so just drop us an email at info@anttikorppistudenthouse.fi if you would like to receive a new offer. There is no need to send a new application unless we specifically request it. Please note that a new offer may come for a different apartment, or in the busiest seasons (August-December) we may not have apartments available anymore.

Yes, both open-ended and fixed-term contracts can be canceled in advance with a full calendar month’s notice (e.g. a contract starting on August 1 or August 15 must be terminated by 30.6.2025). If the termination is done according to the instructions, the deposit will be refunded. However, if the required notice period isn’t observed, we will charge one month’s rent. Read more here.

Yes, we do! For stays shorter than six months, we typically provide fixed-term contracts to make things easier for tenants, as notice periods won’t be a concern. While our housing is primarily intended for those staying at least five months—especially during the busiest semesters (August to December and January to May)—we’re happy to accommodate shorter stays if we have availability. The minimum rental period is one month.

You will know you have received a contract to sign if you have received an email from info@anttikorppistudenthouse.fi telling you that an offer has been sent to you. If you have used university email, the message may have been rejected for security reasons. If you have used a university email address, please forward your personal email to info@anttikorppistudenthouse.fi. Remember to check your spam!

An open-ended contract continues until you terminate it. To do so, please fill out the “Notice of Departure” form. Terminate your contract with a notice period of one full calendar month. A full calendar month means a period corresponding to one month of the calendar, starting on the first day of the month and ending on the last day of the month (for example, the 1st of May to the 31st of May is a full calendar month).

For example, to move out on May 31st, you must submit your notice by April 30th. Please be mindful with the timing—if you’re even one day late, your notice will be considered for the next calendar month, meaning your contract will end one month later than planned.

If you have a fixed-term contract, there is no need to give notice, as the contract will end automatically on the agreed date. However, once the contract has started, it cannot be terminated before the end date unless you pay a cancellation fee equal to one month’s rent.

According to Finnish rental law, the contracts always end on the last day of the month. This is a common and standard practice in Finland.

Open-ended contracts have no set end date and are ideal for residents planning longer stays. These contracts offer flexibility, and with this arrangement, the apartment remains reserved for the tenant until they choose to give notice of termination.

Facilities and Services

Yes! We have two saunas, one for women and one for men. The women’s sauna can be found on the ground floor in staircase A and the men’s sauna in the basement of staircase C.

You don’t need to book a sauna shift in advance. Sauna shifts are every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7 pm to 9 pm. The door lock opens when the sauna is turned on, otherwise, the sauna doors are locked.

Sauna shifts can also be found on the sauna doors and in the One4All app under Documents -> Instructions for Residents -> Sauna.

Getting your internet set up is easy! Internet access is free, but you’ll need to purchase a cable and/or modem to get started. Only one of the ethernet outlets works, so make sure to test both to see which one provides the connection for your modem or computer.

If you prefer a wired connection, just plug in the cable, and you’re good to go. For Wi-Fi, you’ll need to buy an Ethernet modem, which can be from any brand. You can search online for different options that suit your budget.

If you’re unsure about compatibility, feel free to contact DNA at +358 44 144 044 for assistance. Once your modem is connected, the Wi-Fi will be available using your modem’s details. For more info, check out the One4All app!

When you move in, the One4All app will be activated for you to book laundry services. In the app, you can find instructions for washing machines and other housing guidelines. The laundry room is located on the street level of the staircase A.

Cleaners visit once a month with a master key to clean the kitchen, bathroom, and common areas. Additionally, the shared living room of the shared apartments is cleaned once a week. Cleaning is carried out only on free surfaces.

In shared apartments, please ensure that personal items are cleared from shared spaces to allow for effective cleaning.

For the full cleaning schedule and guidelines, read more here.

Smoking is only allowed in the designated areas at the waste collection point near staircases A and D. Smoking inside apartments and on balconies is strictly prohibited. Repeated smoking outside the designated areas will lead to immediate termination of your lease agreement, but we hope it never comes to that!

Yes! The gym is located in the basement of staircase C, and it’s free of charge for our residents. We recommend using it between 8:00 and 22:00 to be considerate of your neighbors— the sound of weights can travel easily through the building’s structures!

Antti Korppi Student House provides all the essential facilities for comfortable student living, but it’s important to remember that we’re not a luxury hotel. Our building is older, which adds to its charm, but it also means there might be some quirks. What we offer is a safe, welcoming environment where you can connect with other students and feel at home. Our focus is on community and simplicity, ensuring you have what you need for a great exchange experience.

Home maintenance and Practical tips

To adjust the heating, turn the radiator knob to 6 for maximum heat. The snowflake symbol means the radiator is turned off. The typical room temperature in Finland is 20–21°C. Keep in mind that radiators may provide less heat in early autumn compared to winter. More information in One4all Documents -> Instructions for Residents -> Heating / Radiators.

The cooker hood runs silently but operates continuously to maintain proper ventilation. If it seems to not be working properly, it may need a cleaning. Try cleaning the grille to ensure it’s functioning effectively.

The fuse is not large enough to handle both the oven and multiple stove burners running at the same time. You can use one stove burner at a time along with the oven, but avoid using multiple burners and the oven simultaneously to prevent overloading the system.

Additionally, avoid using all the power outlets in the kitchen at the same time to prevent electrical issues. This way, everything should work perfectly!

Mails and Parcels

Mail is delivered through the letter box of the apartment’s common area.

If a letter is delivered to your apartment for a former resident, please write the date and “No longer lives here” on the envelope. Then drop it in the yellow mailbox located in front of the Alepa across the street. This way, the previous tenant’s important mail will be forwarded to their new address.

You will receive a separate notification from the post office or transport company with all the details on when and how to pick up your delivery. They will make sure you know exactly what to do!

Please ensure that you have provided your phone number correctly when placing the order. If your phone number is missing or incorrect, you may not receive important delivery updates.

Also, keep in mind that some transport services may not be able to call or text foreign numbers. For this reason, it might be helpful to get a Finnish SIM card or prepaid connection during your stay.

Moving in

If your room is available, then yes. Just send an email to info@anttikorppistudenthouse.fi and let us know your new preferred move-in date. If you want to move in later than you originally requested and/or signed the contract to start, we can change the move-in date, but unfortunately, we cannot change the billing. If you want to move in earlier, you will be charged an additional daily fee.

You will receive an email with instructions on how to collect your keys a few days before the start date of your tenancy. If you plan to arrive after your contract start date, please inform us in advance at info@anttikorppistudenthouse.fi. This ensures that you receive the key retrieval instructions at the right time. Please note that the deposit must be paid before we can send you instructions on how to collect the keys.

Your keys will be available in a secure safety box and you can pick them up on the start date of your contract at a time that suits you. The safety box is accessible 24/7 for your convenience.

In Finland, many doors are opened by inserting the key into the lock, pushing or pulling the door, and then turning the key. Don’t worry if it feels a bit stiff.

If you want to keep your door open, you can set the lock to stay open using a small switch on the side of the door near the lock. This switch slides up and down.

Moving out

We will send the tenant instructions for moving out when we have received the notice of termination. You can find the checklist for moving out here.

Following these instructions will ensure a quicker return of your security deposit:

  • Clean the room and common areas (especially the kitchen and the bathroom) according to the cleaning instructions, with the idea that the room will be in the same condition as when you got it and that a new tenant could move in immediately. You can find cleaning instructions here
  • Cleaning the kitchen and the bathroom is the responsibility of the tenant moving out, even if another person stays in the apartment. Together with your roommate, make sure the apartment is left in the agreed condition.
  • Ensure that there are no personal belongings left in the apartment (including the private room, kitchen, toilet, common areas, balcony, and storage rooms) other than the items provided by Antti Korppi Student House. You can find the equipment list here
  • Leave used sheets on the bed in your room and personal utensils on the shelf washed for the next resident (2 Plates, 2 Side Plates, 2 Bowls, 2 Deep Plates, 2 Glasses, 2 Mugs, 2 Knives, 2 Forks, 2 Spoons, 2 Small Spoons). Sheets can be left used on the bed, but the dishes must be washed.
  • If you leave the apartment uncleaned or any items/trash in the apartment, cleaning and emptying costs will be deducted from the deposit, starting from 50 euros according to the price list.
  • Return your keys with the key ring. If the key has no indication of which room it belongs to, the refund will be delayed or an extra charge will be applied.
  • The security deposit will be returned to the tenant at the end of the lease agreement, once rent and other fees have been paid, keys have been returned, the apartment has been emptied and cleaned according to the cleaning instructions and inspected. Leaving items or not cleaning up will delay the return of the deposit.

You will receive instructions on how to return your keys when your termination is confirmed. Please make sure that the key has a key ring with the number of the room in it.

Our contracts always end on the last day of the month so even though you are leaving earlier during the month, we cannot refund the rent for the remaining days.

You can find all the important information about moving out here.

The security deposit will be returned to the tenant at the end of the lease agreement, once rent and other fees have been paid, keys have been returned, and the apartment has been emptied and cleaned according to the cleaning instructions and inspected. According to Finnish law, the deposit will be returned within 30 days after the contract ends. The return period for the deposit is normally 1-3 weeks after the lease has ended but leaving items or not cleaning up will delay the return of the deposit. We do not respond to security deposit inquiries. We will contact you separately if there are any uncertainties about your departure.

An open-ended contract continues until you terminate it. To do so, please fill out the “Notice of Departure” form. Terminate your contract with a notice period of one full calendar month.

Payments

Yes, the security deposit (€595) serves as the final reservation for the apartment and needs to be paid right after receiving the invoice. The security deposit is refunded after your contract has ended and if the conditions in the contract have been met.

You will receive a message titled “Confirmation of Security Deposit Receipt” once we have received your deposit. Please note that no separate payment confirmation will be sent for rent invoices.

Keep an eye out for emails from Brang Oy. For international payments, we recommend using Wise, Revolut, or N26, as we unfortunately cannot accept cash or debit card payments.

All rent invoices will be sent to your email each month—typically on the 15th for the following month. Please note that your first rent invoice may arrive on a different date. You’ll see all the necessary details, including the due date and reference number, on the invoice itself.

The due date for rent is always the 2nd of the month. Remember to include the reference number when paying so we can match the payment to your account. A few days’ delay is not an issue—interest is only charged 14 days after the invoice is sent.

If you receive a reminder invoice from Brang Oy, simply pay the updated amount with the added reminder fee. Otherwise, pay according to the original invoice.

Please note that no separate confirmation will be sent once your rent payment is received.

For payment plans or questions, contact Brang Oy directly—their contact details can be found on your invoice.

You will receive the invoice for the security deposit to your email address after you have signed the contract from a sender called Brang Oy. The invoice can be paid with a bank transfer as we, unfortunately, can’t accept cash or debit card payments. We recommend using a service like Wise, Revolut, or N26 for all international payments.

Make sure you fill in the reference number for the payment so that we can connect the payment to your account. In addition, note that your bank may charge a transfer fee.

Your tenancy will only be confirmed once the security deposit has been paid. If the deposit is not received within seven days of the invoice being sent and you haven’t contacted us about the payment, we reserve the right to offer the apartment to the next applicant.

We understand that international bank transfers can take time. If you think your payment might be delayed beyond the seven-day window, please let us know as soon as possible.

Please note: even if interest for late payment appears on the invoice, we do not charge any late fees for security deposit payments.

Rooms

Unfortunately, our rooms are currently not accessible for individuals with mobility challenges, such as those requiring wheelchair access, due to high doorsteps and other structural limitations.

Of course! However, please take into consideration the quiet hours (the rules of order can be found in the One4All app that will be activated when moving in) and be mindful of your roommates’ space and schedule. If your friends are staying overnight, just make sure everyone is comfortable with the arrangement, and remember that longer stays do need special permission. We don’t always have extra mattresses to lend out, so it’s a good idea to check with your neighbors if they have an air mattress you can borrow. You can also find affordable air mattresses if needed!

Yes, we do our best to pair you with someone of the same sex when sharing a bathroom and kitchen. However, we rely on the information provided by applicants, and while we make every effort to accommodate same-sex arrangements, we cannot guarantee this in every case. There are eight lockable private bedrooms on each floor, so the maximum number of people sharing an apartment on the same floor is eight. You can take a look at the floor plan of the apartment below.

In Finland, it is generally safe to move around alone, even in the evening and at night. Koskela is a quiet area and we have received a lot of positive feedback from our residents about the location and its safety.

To ensure a comfortable and safe living environment for everyone, residents must follow the general rules and regulations, along with Finnish laws and the rental contract.

  1. Be considerate of your neighbors – Keep things quiet, especially during quiet hours (22:00–07:00) so everyone can rest.
  2. Keep shared areas tidy – Especially in shared apartments, like the kitchen and bathroom.
  3. Sort your waste – Please follow sorting instructions and take your trash to the correct bins.
  4. Make sure entrance doors close properly – For everyone’s safety, doors should stay locked at all times.
  5. Use shared spaces with care – Smoking or hanging out in stairwells or storage rooms isn’t allowed.
  6. Balconies and courtyards – Let’s keep these clean and smoke-free for all to enjoy.
  7. Unfortunately, pets aren’t allowed in the building.
  8. Park only in marked areas – Please avoid blocking entrances or rescue routes.
  9. Be mindful of damage – Residents are responsible for any damage they or their guests may cause.
  10. Serious or repeated rule violations may lead to contract termination, but we hope it never comes to that!

Read the full rules in One4all > Documents > General rules and regulations.

Quiet hours are from 22:00 to 07:00.

If your neighbors are being too loud, you can:

  • Knock on their door and kindly ask them to quiet down. Often, they may not realize how much noise they are making.
  • If the noise continues and it disturbs your peace, contact the housing manager info@anttikorppistudenthouse.fi with the date(s) and time(s) when the noise occurred. Briefly describe what happened and let us know if the police had to be called.
  • Contact the emergency number 112 in serious cases (e.g. ongoing partying late at night).

Let’s all respect each other’s rest and make Antti Korppi a peaceful place to live!
